Scott Bader Commonwealth Limited
Guardian Trustee Vacancy
The Scott Bader Commonwealth Limited is seeking a Guardian Trustee to serve for a term of 3 years from February 2022. Taking on this role would also mean becoming a Director and Charity Trustee of Scott Bader Commonwealth Limited. The honorary appointment is a great opportunity at a fascinating time to contribute to a company with a unique place in the history of Employee Ownership.
The Scott Bader Commonwealth is a Common Trustee Company founded in 1951. This means that the share capital of Scott Bader and therefore the ownership of the Company was transferred to Scott Bader Commonwealth Limited. The founders wanted to create a radical company with charitable status, and with its wellbeing entrusted democratically to those who work in it. As a result, Scott Bader colleagues enjoy many of the benefits (and responsibilities) of ownership but cannot sell the business. Colleagues must ensure the ongoing success of Scott Bader so that future generations can benefit from its continued existence. Today, Scott Bader employs 700 colleagues across 7 manufacturing sites and 17 offices around the world.
The nine Board Members of the Scott Bader Commonwealth Ltd include:
• Five externally appointed Guardian Trustees
• Three internally elected Members
• The Chairman of Scott Bader Company Ltd
It is essential that Guardian Trustees empathise with Scott Bader’s trusteeship goals and business model. We need to ensure that the five Guardian Trustees bring a range of attributes. We are currently particularly interested in candidates with experience in charity law and communications.
The time commitment to this role varies but is between 12 and 20 days per year usually by attendance at the Scott Bader site at Wollaston, Near Wellingborough. Meetings may also be conducted by conference call.
