The Quakers and Business Group

The Quakers and Business Group is a registered charity and a Quaker recognised body in Britain (BYM). We are today’s voice and network for the Quaker business community, dedicated to fostering a supportive community and advancing our work through events, programs, publications, and research.

Our Purpose: Modern Interpreters of Quaker Business Principles

Our purpose os to be the custodian, modern interpreter, and promoter of Quaker principles in business and the workplace. We provide a supportive network for those upholding these principles and promote our work through events, programs, projects, speaking engagements, publications, and research.

Our Focus: Living Values at Work

Do the Right Thing: Ethical Business and Integrity

Quakers have a reputatin for being trustworthy and ethical. We believe integrity in business is paramount. Ethics has been a central theme of the Quakers and Business Group’s work for some time, helping individuals and organisations navigate complex ethical dilemmas.

Live Your Values at Work: Promoting Employee Well-being

Living your workplace values in business is not always easy. Conflict between personal values and those of the workplace can be a source of anxiety and stress, which is a threat to employee well-being. We provide a network and resources to help people stay true to their values.

Modern Contributions: Quaker Organisations and Social Enterprise

We admire the famous names of the past and recognise the importance of Quaker history in business. But we also need to share the modern-day contributions of Quaker organisations and individuals. Many strive to implement sustainable business practices and models that benefit communities and society.

The Middle Way: Blurring Boundaries for Good Business

The boundaries between pure capitalism and pure charity are becoming blurred. There are charities that operate trading arms, businesses that are owned by charities and trusts (Scott Bader, Andrews Estate Agent), and social enterprises. These organisations are run to provide benefits beyond the owners, much like the early Quaker businesses, embodying principles of good business for all.
