4. Peace
Our tradition is non-violence. As part of our decision-making process, Friends should seriously consider whether to do business with the arms trade, or any that profit from conflict. This is a significant ethical dilemma we face in modern business. But any form of violence or coercion in business is suspect and is considered an unethical business practice.
4.1 Avoiding Legal Coercion
Traditionally, we hesitate to take anyone to court, especially those weaker than us. We believe this can be a form of coercion that lack respect for the other party. We seek more peaceful and community focused ways to resolve disputes, in line with the values of good business.
4.2 Speaking with Kindness and Respect
Forcing our wishes on others by strong and angry words can be a form of domination, lacking respect for the other. Our tradition is to speak gently and respect others’ views. This is an essential part of kindness in business and a fundamental aspect of a non-hierarchical working environment.
4.3 A Peaceable Relationship with the Earth
We desire a peaceable relationship with the earth, using resources sustainably. This commitment is at the heart of our approach to sustianable business, where we work to avoid harm and promote the wellbeing of the planet and all its inhabitants.
